You might be hearing about a movie called Tiny Furniture pretty soon, or maybe you’ve already been hearing about it. In 2010 it generated pretty steady praise on the festival circuit and went wholly unnoticed for over a year after. It is no doubt a movie you might have missed, but with it already streaming on VOD services and available soon on home media, Tiny Furniture is getting the buzz going again.

Summer’s over so it’s time for movie theatres to quiet down. The rest of the year is reserved for mediocre mainstream movies, with the rare gem hidden here and there until Oscar season rolls around at the end of the year. But this year’s already shocked me with a smart and worthwhile film like Contagion removed from blockbuster season. Now two weeks out from the biggest rush for movies, Drive is a movie you might have missed, but I can tell you now that it shouldn’t be.

Kevin Smith Is Seeing Red
Red State
I’m a pretty big Kevin Smith fan; I’ve really liked his whole library (though I’ve never seen Jersey Girl). The last movie Kevin Smith directed was a buddy-cop movie called Cop Out, which he didn’t write. I don’t know if you saw it, but it was okay. Red State is Smith’s return to writing and directing, but not really how fans remember the wisecracking auteur.
