The wisecracking piggy bank made his debut in the hit Pixar series, Toy Story. Hamm, along with his buddies, have made children and adults alike laugh out loud for three movies, so how can Disney not make a real-life, functional version of everyone’s favorite, loveable, Evil Dr. Pork Chop?
This real-life piggy bank version of Hamm is a little different in that the movie version of Hamm is made of plastic whereas the real-life version is made of resin. This means that, although Hamm is easy to play with in many action scenes in the movie, if you drop him in real life, poor little Hamm would break into pieces. As such, it is important to note that this Hamm is not a toy! It even says so on the tag! If you have kids or relatives that want to play with Hamm such as in the movie, get a plush version of the little porker.
The Disney Store version of the Hamm piggy bank, or as they call it, the Hamm Bank, is true-to-size and quite large and heavy. I’d say it weighs 2-3 pounds without any coins inside. The official dimensions are 7″ in height, 6″ in width, and 11″ in length, so you can see, it’s pretty big.
The cork stopper for the Hamm I received is perfectly sized, and even a little difficult to pull out, but I have read reports about kids being able to shove it in to the point of no return, so be careful with that. As I said, this Hamm is not a toy!
For its purpose, Hamm does the job, storing coins just like any other piggy bank. The slot on top is pretty large enough to fit multiple coins at the same time, and you can fit your favorite currency’s bills inside quite easily as well. It’s not too big that you can fit fingers inside of course, so the goal is saving money rather than storing it (as is any other piggy bank type item, right!?).
Hamm looks great on my desk; the pink paint and blushing cheeks are perfect. It’s just like the movie. It looks nice and feels good to hold, but like I said earlier, be careful and don’t drop it!
At a price of $19.50 on the Disney store website, you can’t go wrong as a fan of Disney and/or Toy Story. This is almost a must-buy in my opinion. Hamm is one of my favorite characters so I would never pass it up!
